GREASE FILTER MAINTENANCE:
A cooker hood filter can be either replaceable or washable. Most commonly, the metallic grease filter in a cooker hood is washable, but even washable grease filters should still be replaced from time to time if necessary.

A washable grease filter should be soaked for 15–20 minutes, for example, in a sink filled with hot water and dishwashing detergent. After soaking, rinse the filter thoroughly and let it dry. Some filter models can also be cleaned in a dishwasher. You can also use a dedicated degreasing agent for cleaning the filter.

The cleanliness of the grease filter should be checked every month, as a dirty filter is a fire hazard. Grease buildup in the filter obstructs airflow in the duct and increases the fire load. While a cooker hood rarely catches fire by itself, a grease fire that starts on the hob can easily spread, igniting the grease in the filter and duct. A dirty filter is also a hygiene risk, as accumulated grease provides an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.
