GREASE FILTER MAINTENANCE

A cooker hood filter can be either replaceable or washable. Most cooker hoods use a washable metal grease filter, but even washable filters should occasionally be replaced when necessary.

To clean a washable grease filter, soak it for 15–20 minutes in hot water mixed with dishwashing detergent. Then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely. Some filter models can also be washed in a dishwasher. You can also use a degreasing cleaner designed for this purpose.

It is recommended to check the grease filter every month, as a dirty filter poses a fire hazard. Accumulated grease blocks airflow in the duct and increases fire load. Although cooker hoods rarely ignite on their own, a grease fire starting on the stove can easily spread and ignite the grease in the filter and duct.

A dirty filter is also a hygiene risk, since accumulated grease provides an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.
