MAINTENANCE OF GREASE FILTER
The cooker hood filter can be either replaceable or washable. Usually, the grease filter in a cooker hood is metal and washable, but even washable grease filters should be replaced occasionally as needed.
Washable grease filters should be soaked for 15–20 minutes, for example in a sink filled with warm water and dish detergent. Then rinse the filter thoroughly and let it dry. You can also use a degreasing agent designed for cleaning filters.
It is advisable to check the cleanliness of the grease filter every month, as a dirty filter poses a fire safety risk. Grease buildup in the filter obstructs airflow in the duct, increasing the risk of fire. A cooker hood rarely catches fire on its own, but a grease fire starting on the stove can easily spread and ignite the grease in the filter and duct. A dirty filter is also a hygiene risk, as the grease collected in it creates a favorable breeding ground for bacteria.
